Board Chair Letter
As my last year serving as Chairman of the Regional Board, the 2016-2017 academic year marks a milestone in my journey with INJAZ Al-Arab. It has been a great honor to serve in this capacity over the last three years. Working alongside my fellow board members, the staff of the Regional Operating Center, and each of our member nations has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I feel more optimistic than ever about the future for young people in the MENA region.
Likewise, it is with sincere enthusiasm that I welcome Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser Al Thani to follow as the next Board Chair of the INJAZ Al-Arab Regional Board. In her tenure as a board member, and as the founder and Chair of INJAZ Qatar, she has worked tirelessly for the betterment of Arab youth. Her wisdom and leadership has been of tremendous value to our organization, and I have great confidence in that she will guide INJAZ Al-Arab to even greater success.
It goes without saying that INJAZ Al-Arab’s mission remains critical. Unemployment rates in the Middle East are some of the highest in the world — a problem that is exacerbated by regional economic and political instability. Simultaneously, young people make up an ever-growing segment of the region’s population, and increasingly it is the youth that feel the burden of the Middle East’s unemployment crisis. Alongside our partners and stakeholders, INJAZ Al-Arab is on the front lines, striving to empower youth with the skills necessary to create their own success, both as individual entrepreneurs and in the competitive private sector jobs market.
In the past year, INJAZ Al-Arab has served over 307,823 students across our 14 member nations, implementing programs in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and workforce readiness. This simply would not have been possible without our dedicated network of nearly 10,598 volunteers — we are grateful for their time, expertise, and unwavering commitment to MENA youth. While we are very proud to have come this far, we are keenly aware of how much further there is to go. In collaboration with our knowledge partners, we are proud to announce the One Million Campaign: our goal to serve over 1 million students across the MENA region by the year 2022.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our network of supporters; without the hard work and dedication of our member nations, the Regional Operating Center, and our extensive network of regional and local board members, our work could not be accomplished. I am truly grateful for your continuous encouragement and support in this vital endeavor.
H.E. Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nehayan
